Learn more about solar panel materials and how developers take proper safety measures for utility-scale solar facilities in your community.

Key Takeaways

  • Solar panels are made of materials like glass, aluminum, copper, and semiconductors commonly found in consumer electronics.
  • Solar panels are designed for durability, but in the event of breakage, damaged panels are typically identified, removed, and replaced. A polymer sealant holds glass in place to help prevent shatter and scatter in the case of damage.
  • The two most used solar cells in the U.S. are: Crystalline Silicon (c-Si) at 79% of new utility-scale capacity added in 2024,1 followed by Thin-Film Cadmium Telluride (CdTe).2 Risk assessments indicate that both c-Si and CdTe panels pose minimal risk to human health in normal conditions or if panels are damaged.
  • Decommissioning plans are designed to return land hosting a solar project to a useful, productive condition at the end of a project鈥檚 operating life.

Battery energy storage systems generally have a limited footprint and do not have unique wildlife interactions. However, that does not mean that BESS developers build projects without considering the impacts.

Key Takeaways:

  • Battery energy storage systems (BESS) facilities are similar to stationary infrastructure. With a limited footprint and self-contained units, standalone BESS facilities do not pose a threat to wildlife.
  • BESS developers comply with the requirements of relevant permitting authority or authorities and typically conduct desktop site screening using geographic data layers to identify any potential sensitive resources within the proposed project area.
  • BESS facilities that are co-located with wind or solar projects are typically considered within the overall facility scope when it comes to assessment and management of potential wildlife impacts.

The Senate鈥檚 recently introduced Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 (BAAJA) represents, if passed, a major opportunity to modernize how America builds clean energy and transmission infrastructure while also accelerating significant environmental benefits.

榴莲视频鈥檚 latest analysis, 鈥The Clean Energy and Environmental Case for the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act,鈥 outlines how the bill鈥檚 critical provisions on permitting, environmental review, judicial review, and interconnection would address major barriers that keep viable projects from reaching operation. Clean energy stands to disproportionately benefit from these technology-neutral permitting reforms: Solar, wind and energy storage account for 93% of planned 2026 utility-scale additions and roughly 1,742 GW of projects seeking interconnection, compared with 253 GW of gas.

When clean generation or transmission is held up, higher-emitting generation operates longer and opportunities to replace it with lower-emitting resources are lost.

By creating a more predictable path to build, BAAJA can unleash:

  • Over $800 billion in new transmission and clean power infrastructure;
  • 350+ GW of new clean energy;
  • Increased access to low-cost, domestic energy, helping lower consumer prices;
  • A more reliable and resilient grid; and
  • 290 million metric tons of avoided CO鈧 emissions annually 鈥 equivalent to the emissions of 63 million cars.

As U.S. energy demand continues to grow, we need more energy, and we need it fast. Luckily, clean power projects are ready to meet this growing need, on the timescales that new technologies need. 榴莲视频 Research team鈥檚 newest Speed to Market analysis shows how clean power projects are faster to both build and connect to the grid, enabling future load growth without relying on costlier thermal units or putting upward pressure on system-wide prices.

The difference is clear:

  • Faster to build: Clean power projects spent an average of less than a year in development last year, while gas turbines spent two to three years in advanced development and construction.
  • Faster to connect: Due to its robust project pipeline, clean power projects take six months听to two years to connect to the grid, whereas unplanned gas generators can take an average of five to seven years.

Clean energy is keeping our country鈥檚 grid stronger and less reliant on slower, costlier sources of energy. To quickly and affordably meet future energy needs, we need to leverage the speed and low cost of clean energy projects.

Considerations for Stormwater Pollution Prevention /resources/considerations-for-stormwater-pollution-prevention/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=considerations-for-stormwater-pollution-prevention Tue, 23 Jun 2026 15:51:54 +0000 /?post_type=resource&p=74737 A Solar Developer鈥檚 Guide to Contracts, Vegetation, and Effective Management

The post Considerations for Stormwater Pollution Prevention appeared first on 榴莲视频.

]]>
Stormwater management is a critical component of utility-scale solar development.

To navigate the challenges of large, multiphase construction efforts, regulatory compliance, and timely site stabilization, Developers must proactively plan, communicate clearly among stakeholders, and strategically design contracts. Intentional stormwater pollution prevention efforts support positive environmental and economic outcomes and strengthen public trust in solar development.

Key themes include:

  • Clarifying roles and responsibilities between Developers, contractors, and any relevant third-party stakeholders
  • Embedding oversight and enforcement mechanisms into contract language to reduce ambiguity and streamline decision-making
  • Anticipating vegetation management needs beyond construction completion to avoid costly delays in permit closure
  • Navigating state-specific permit requirements and understanding how they can impact ownership, transferability, and compliance obligations.

By incorporating these considerations early and thoroughly, Developers can reduce risk, improve coordination with contractor partners, and accelerate the path to final stabilization and permit termination.

The Building an Affordable California Act modernizes California鈥檚 approval process for the critical clean energy projects needed to meet rising energy demand and the state鈥檚 climate goals.听

The ballot initiative streamlines the 55-year-old California Environmental Quality Act, shaving an estimated three to seven years from development timelines without sacrificing environmental protections.听

For clean energy, the initiative:

  • Sets enforceable timelines for public agencies to complete environmental reviews and issue decisions under the law, addressing delays that eat up years today.
  • Sets timelines for judicial review, helping prevent common abuses of CEQA lawsuits to slow projects.
  • Eliminates requirements for project developers to evaluate an unlimited number of alternatives to any proposed project, requiring analysis instead of just one alternative and a 鈥渘o project鈥 scenario.
  • Creates objective standards of review, providing that project challenges must be based on written standards such as local ordinances, environmental laws or zoning standards.

The reforms in the initiative, which has qualified to appear on the November ballot, will cut down on bureaucratic delays and help ensure California鈥檚 landmark environmental law stays true to its original purpose.
